Ayşe Küçük

Turkish painter Ayse Küçük creates brilliant abstractions that combine graffiti and illustration with bold strokes of intense coloration. Demonstrating influences ranging from comics to Jean Michel Basquiat and Robert Rauschenberg, automatism seems to inform her amorphic undulating shapes and bold gestural figurative elements. Combining Joan Miro-like line work with Neo-Expressionist brushwork and mark making, she depicts the energy and duality of the world around her, creating a unique visual language that speaks to the unique world of Turkish street culture and contemporary politics.
